I've lost a friend I never met. If God enjoys Bill as much as we readers have, Heaven will indeed be a joyous place. My sympathy to Bill's family. Bill and his wonderful writings will live forever.

Hey Bill,
There was a great outpouring of people at the Memorial Service Vicki and all your kids held for you at The Harris Center, Sunday September 13. As Vicki said to me beforehand – of course, you wouldn’t have planned on being there. Nonetheless, if you were listening, you heard the deeply felt sense of the loss and sadness so many people have at your leaving us.

What the Hell is Brady supposed to do? Stony will never get his memory back? Now who do fishermen and hunters have to extol the spirit of their sport as eloquently as you have done? I’m re-reading Upland Days.

Mike’s opening remarks were special, weren’t they – Welcoming “those who borrowed and those who bought my Dad’s books.”

I read everyone the following part of that letter you wrote June 1, 1984 replying to my Dad’s note congratulating you on your first, “Death and Charity’s Point:
“Bob, It’s been a kick, having a real book out there where my friends can all read it. (Then) it occurred to me that – my God! People are actually going to read this thing. I suddenly began to fret that they all might hate it, and say kind, condescending things about it. ‘Real nice book you got there. Loved the cover.’ Stuff like that.” Those worries passed quickly. Your style is you.

Remember “An Ode to My Best Friend” which you wrote for my 50th. In it you recall all the double-dating we did in my (my parent’s) Black and White ’55 Dodge, which Brady too recalls enjoying.! You wrote,
“With me in the back and you at the wheel
“I had the better of the deal.”
When you weren’t back there, Pete usually was. Among the LHS ‘58ers who attended that Sunday were several of the other gender who’d joined us repeatedly, in the front and back seats. They’re still looking fine, BTW!

Your Ode reminded us “Our budding friendship became fast, . . . ” referring to events in the Spring of 10th grade, and you ended it with:
“Connected over space and time
“I’m your best friend, and you are mine.”

Well, I’m counting on that to always be true, Bill - God Damnit,.

My husband read Mr Tapply's book in Readers Digest condensed books. He asked me to see if I could find more at the library. I brought him 4 books which he read in 5 days. I signed on to the website to get a complete list of the books and try to get them by date for my husband Ron. I am so sorry to see that Mr Tapply has passed. Just know that his memory lives on in the wonderful books that will be enjoyed forever. What a tribute to an obviously dear man. Love and Prayers Marilyn

What a shock! I decided to look at the website to see when William Tapply's next book would be out. I have always enjoyed his books very much and will miss reading him. My condolences to the family.
